ABOUT PRP
PRP perhaps made its first foray into the mainstream as it was used for high-profile athletes recovering from sports injuries as a form of regenerative medicine. It has also been found to show promising results for the treatment of male pattern baldness.
WHAT IS PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body. Platelets are well-known for their clotting abilities, but they also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area. Platelet-rich plasma is simply blood that contains more platelets than normal.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We collect a blood sample, spin it down in a centrifuge, and isolate your body's own PRP. It is then injected into the areas of your scalp with thinning or hair loss to stimulate hair growth. A monthly treatment for 3 months, followed by bi-annual treatments is recommended. Studies have shown that 80% of men who undergo PRP treatments show new hair growth, while 60% of women show new hair growth.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR PRP?
We recommend first having a hair loss consultation visit to confirm the diagnosis and discuss all available treatment options. Because hair loss is difficult to treat, we typically recommend using multiple different treatments to get the best results. These can include topical foams or liquids to put on your scalp, pills, and injections depending on your preferences and goals.
